ZERO WASTE POLICY
Our goal is to eliminate garbage going into landfills! We need your help!
Kaslo Jazz Etc. Festival will consult with vendors to help with zero waste strategies. We need your help to eliminate garbage from the festival. This Zero Waste Policy is MANDATORY for any vendors at KJEF. Vendors are required to comply with all policy instructions clearly and thoroughly for the entirety of the festival. Failure to do so will result in full damage deposits being revoked, removal from festival site, and those not obeying the Zero Waste Policy will not be considered for future events.
**All vendors must be present at the festival site for a mandatory meeting with our Green Team for a 30 minute Zero Waste orientation the Thursday before the festival starts. Contact your Vendor Co-ordinator for details. Vendors who arrive with incorrect packaging will have to find the correct products or leave the site with no refund. **
**** If Vendors don’t use approved packaging/products, they will not be permitted to operate at the festival. If you do not come prepared with the proper food service items and requirements – we may have some APPROVED SERVICE WARES for sale at festival prices but this is not a guarantee and you will not be allowed to operate without approval. ****
We require all vendors to sell their products in PAPER CONTAINERS. RECYCLABLE ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE – THEY MUST BE SPECIFICALLY BIODEGRADABLE. NO COMPOSTABLE / SINGLE USE PLASTIC OF ANY KIND. Please see the specific list below.
Serving or selling food in Polystyrene, waxed cardboard, foiled wax sheets is not acceptable. Do NOT serve or sell over packaged products.
NO SINGLE SERVICE FOOD ITEMS – Individually packaged snacks (chips, candy bars, ice cream) that have foil or plastic lined wrappers as well as individually packaged condiments, sugars or creamers are not permitted. Instead use large closable dispensers or squeeze bottles. Bulk containers need to meet health requirements.
If you are going to sell San Pellegrino cans: the paper foil on the top has to be removed before handed to the customer.

PLASTIC BOTTLE POLICY
Kaslo Jazz Etc Festival is plastic bottle free! Vendors are not allowed to sell or distribute any beverage in a single use plastic bottle. Please see above for allowed beverage item containers.
SORTING AND WASTE DISPOSAL
The Green Team will oversee several collection sites around the festival where all waste will be separated – there will be no other garbage cans allowed on site.
Vendors will be supplied with buckets for food waste – which will be collected when full. All waste/recycling/food waste must be clearly labeled (using tape) with Type of waste and Vendor name before collection will occur. Vendors are responsible for properly sorting all of their own waste. Waste will not be collected unless it’s properly sorted and labeled. We suggest using 3 separate cardboard boxes for the soiled paper, returnables, and recyclables and a clear garbage bag for your Garbage. Unsorted waste will not be accepted and you will be asked to re-sort any mixed bags of waste. We will only be accepting Clear or Blue Bags at the festival. Black Garbage bags will not be accepted. Failure to do so will result in damage deposits being revoked and not violators will not be considered for future events.
All waste must be sorted into the 5 following categories:
- All food waste (including vegetables, fruit, cooked food, meat, bones, coffee grounds, filters, bread, etc.)
- No liquids (dispose with grey water)
- No bulk oil (take it with you)
- All used serviettes, paper and wooden food service items.
- Remove food, liquids, serviettes, and lids first.
- Any beverage container that has a deposit
- Remove liquids and lids first.
Recyclables: (*must be rinsed and cleaned or they are considered garbage)
- Cardboard and clean paper
- Recyclable plastic lids
- Plastic packaging numbered 1-7 for recycling
- Tin, glass
Garbage (All other waste including):
- Foil or plastic lined paper
- Snack wrappers
- Wet wipes
- Cigarette butts (fully extinguished)
There will also be buckets at each collection site for liquids and ice. **Please familiarize your staff with these guidelines**
This ZERO WASTE POLICY constitutes an AGREEMENT FOR SERVICE with KJES
